Critique My Blog!

Critique my blog!

As most of you who have followed me for a while know, I’m a total blog novice–but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I had no idea what I was getting into before I started this thing; all I wanted was a place to post short stories, review books I love (and sometimes hate), and give other readers and writers an insight into the writing process. I hope I am still true to that spirit today of novicery. (Yeah, I just made that word up. But you can use it.)

Long story short, today is the beginning of the “Critique My Blog” BLOGFEST. If this sounds cool, and you are thinking to yourself, “Shoot, I’d like my blog critiqued,” feel free to click here and add your blog to the list.

The point of this post is to ply you, my wonderful readers and writers, for some feedback regarding my blog. Since I’m not able to change much about my blog in terms of appearance at this point, I’m going to ask that my wonderful reviewers focus mainly on content. If you have the time, please leave your feedback in the comments of this post.

a. Frequency: Do I post too often? Not often enough?

b. Content: Are the posts interesting? Unique? Are they focused, or all over the place?

c. Quality: Are the individual posts too long, too short, too sloppy, or too generic?

Thanks for your help making The Prolific Novelista the best source of entertainment, how-tos, and free reads possible!

    Hi Kiersi
I’m sorry I’m the first to post, because I don’t have a lot to say. I love your blog! I love the fresh, clean design, the consistent approach and the streamlined information interface. In fact, I can learn some things about my own site (which was cobbled together late at night, under the influence of too much chocolate.) I think the content is interesting and timely and the posts are a good length. A few things: There’s a lot of different knds of information available – how to, reviews, your own writing. It may be too much and too diverse. I tend not to read reviews on writer’s sites but that might just be a personal preference. Also, I couldn’t figure out how often and on what days you blog and, this is just personal, I’m not a fan of the tags list – that seems more like an unnecessary design element than truly informational – and you don’t need it, in my opinion.
    Other than that, awesome job!

I second this. I love it too. Clean, fun, and the best looking book blog I’ve seen in awhile!

  3. I love the header (I love the pop of the red). I like being able to see what you write about right off the bat. I would like to see a bio (I know you have an about page but a little teaser in the right hand column would be nice). I would group subscribe and twitter together. I like the pictures you include in your posts. Your posts seem to be interesting at least I know that I will come back later this week (when I have more time) and read through them.

  4. a. Frequency: You appear to post a few times a week which feels like a good amount to me.

    b. Content: I love your fiction posts. They’ve got an excellent character to them. I like that you have reviews on your site. It gives me an idea of what sort of books you like and what you read. I’d love to know more about your inspiration.

    c. Quality: You write well. I like that there is variety to the post lengths.

You’re obviously doing well. Great site.

I am new to your blog, so my comments should be taken with that grain of salt! I will say I really love the look of your blog – it’s easy to read and has an elegant appearance. From what I’ve seen, your posts don’t seem too long (I get a little claustrophobic when faced with really long blog posts), and your blog isn’t too cluttered or anything. So it looks good to me! 🙂

I love your blog. Along with other fabulous bloggers I know personally, you’ve helped set my nice high bar of the kind of blog I want to read. I’m picky about writing style, type and variety of content, and aesthetics – and your awesome blog is part of why. 🙂 Still, I’ll try to answer your questions.

    a. Frequency: Do I post too often? Not often enough?
Often enough and definitely not too often, in my opinion. 🙂

    b. Content: Are the posts interesting? Unique? Are they focused, or all over the place?
You have several categories you blog in and I appreciate your clarity about that, and about what each blog post is about. They are IMHO unique & interesting and each one is definitely focused. I can tell that you (unlike me, with many of my lazier Goodreads book reviews) planned, wrote, and edited each one.

    c. Quality: Are the individual posts too long, too short, too sloppy, or too generic?
I love that you have plenty of nice, meaty posts! And they are never generic.

Your blog is how I connected to Sharpread which connected me to the Nerdy Book Club (and so much more) – so my one criticism is that you don’t have the Nerdy Book Club on your blog roll. 😉
