Who’s Kiersi?

Kiersi Burkhart

Kiersi Burkhart

Kiersi is the author of two upcoming YA novels: HONOR CODE (Fall 2017, Carolrhoda Lab), a contemporary debut about a scandal that rocks a private boarding school; and TOWER OF SMOKE & LIES (Spring 2018, Carolrhoda Lab), a fantasy novel pitched as Gossip Girl meets Game of Thrones. You can read more about them here.

Kiersi is also a co-author of the middle-grade series, QUARTZ CREEK RANCH, along with the lovely and talented Amber J. Keyser—about a ranch that helps troubled youth, and the horses who change their lives.

She is represented by Fiona Kenshole of Transatlantic Literary Agency.

Kiersi grew up riding horses in Colorado. At sixteen, she attended Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and got a degree in Political Science. Now she works as an author, copywriter, and journalist in locations all across the country. Who knows where she’ll land next?

1. I used to be an illustrator. I gave up illustrating picture books to write them, instead.

2. I’m a total animal freak. Probably to the point of embarrassing. I love critters of every single shape and kind—snakes, spiders, lizards, you name it. (Pretty sure my constant need to bring home the critters I found drove my mom nuts.) Minus a really traumatic experience I had with bed bugs.

I also have this pretty amazing dog named Baby.

3. I LOVE CUTE SMALL THINGS. Some examples:

Calico Critters

Calico Critters are my addiction.

Tamagotchi is the best

Remember Tamagotchi? I sure do. I have about a million of them.

4. I love gardening and growing my own food, and I can’t wait to have my own herd of goats.

5. I’m a bit obsessed with… certain… video games.

Skyrim, so what?

6. The Neverending Story by Michael Ende is the best children’s book ever written and if you disagree I will fight you.

7. There are only six interesting things about me. Sorry. You read too far.
